I tried 2.61 (for which a pre-built RPM was available), but that seemed to
introduce another problem: the ./autogen.sh failed with and an illegal
arguement (to m4 in autom4te if I read it correctly) of
"--debugfile=autom4te.cache".

I pulled the original 2.60 tarball from GNU and built an RPM from that, and all
seems to work OK.  Only one question: why did Wireshark move to 2.61 ? It looks
to me like all the major distros went from 2.59 to 2.61!

Anyway, 2.60 works, but I bet others are going to have similar problems.
