Hello Ulf,
You've described exactly what I had been thinking about!
The experimental patches were simply an early realization of one small part of
the bigger problem.
I've come to the conclusion that the proposed expert info configuration
framework could be easier than I first suspected. The wished for "prior art"
is within the Wireshark source itself! ;-)
