That's because we use the win32 system file dialogs (open, save, ...) now. This
catches the event loop from the GTK system, causing it to not redraw anything
that GTK is displaying.
The Edit/Preferences is implemented completely different, namely using the GTK
widgets.
I don't know any way to prevent this ...
