Didn't think it should be a memory issue when capturing to (multiple) files.

Ring buffer- I hadn't noticed that setting ... and it's on by default and
defaults to 2 files, so that answers that one. -Thanks.

Yes, using a different tool like dumpcap or tcpdump looks like the way to go
for these big, long running captures. - Pity; hopefully the glitches causing
this instability in WireShark will be found and fed to the fishes!  (WireShark
is an otherwise excellent tool.)
