I've been tasked with trying to dissect the SMB traffic for our organization. Currently we use Compuware's NetVantage for our WAN traffic analysis. This tool combines all the SMB traffic when you look at the reports. Unfortunately, this is not very helpful when trying to determine which traffic is file sharing, which is DFS/CIFS, and other MS stuff that happens using this protocol. Is there anyway to use Ethereal (or any other tool for that matter) to define what this SMB traffic is?
