Always trouble shoot the physical layer first (CCNA teaching). Sounds as if the only thing that changes when you change devices to monitor port is NIC card. Ensure you are able to capture with each NIC card on each device. Before starting a capture session, ensure a valid interface has been selected first.

Anyone else have ideas on this?

Subject: [Ethereal-users] RE: Capture packets from other port of DellSW3324-need help (LienDo)

Thanks Craig,

I notice that if I connect a laptop to the target port (monitor port) I can see activities from the source port  (a desktop connected to).
However If I connect a desktop to the monitor port I can not see activates from source port (a laptop or desktop connected )

Any ideas? Am I missing doing anything in ethereal?

Your help would be kind

Regards,
