Actually I figured out the problem. It was because I was running as root.as
a normal user it opens the window fine.

But now again, when I try to capture packets it does not identify any
interfaces and when I put tr0 it gives me an error
"The capture session could not be initiated(recv_ack:bind error 0x1).Please
check to make sure you have sufficient permissions and that you have the
proper interface or pipe specified "

tcpdump runs fine.

Hi all,

I installed the binaries for ethereal,glib,gnu.gettext,gtk+,perl and
libpcap from the aix website-www.frec-bull.com and I installed all the
files using smit.

Now on the command line when I give ethereal, it gives me a warning

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I am running as root.
Has anyone seen this before?
