I've prefered perl myself... but embeding perl is not easy at all.
Writing an epan wrapper for perl might had not been such a complex
task but then you could just use epan from perl but not enhance epan
with perl code.

As for python I do not like it, a purely personal thing that regards
mainly the use whitespace, I can understand why other people likes it,
I just don't. I can stand having to go back and fix a tab in a
Makefile once or twice a month, working with python that becomes my
personal nightmare every time.

I think that's because lua is preety straightforward to get it into
the picture.
