Hello,
I'm running the Ethereal v0.10.16 pre-built Windows binary
on two different Windows XP SP1 systems.
Over the last several days I have managed to crash
Ethereal v0.10.16 three times (one on one system, twice on the
other) with the following error message.
> Gtk-ERROR **: file gtkfilechooserdefault.c: line 1558
(queue_edited_idle): assertion failed: (!impl->edited_new_text)
aborting...
>
> [OK]
After clicking on OK prompt I am presented with following Microsoft
Visual C++
Runtime Library message box:
> Runtime Error!
> Program: C:\Program Files\Ethereal\ethereal.exe
>
> This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way.
> Please contact the application's support team for more information.
>
> [OK]
Unfortunately the Gtk-ERROR message appears to be caused
by some particular (but currently unknown) keystroke/button
click sequence I do when manipulating the expanded "Save as"
dialog box after I inadvertently attempt to create a second
new directory to save the current file capture into.
Here's what I typically do...
>From the File menu I select "Save as..." to display the "Save as"
dialog box.
>From the "Ethereal:Save Capture File As" dialog I click on the
"Browse for other folders" item to expand this dialog to include
Browser components along with the "Create Folder" button.
I navigate to the desired parent directory and then click on
the "Create Folder" button. I enter the desired name for the
new folder (i.e. "2004-08-17 - faulty webcam traffic").
Here is where I believe that I make a mistake that sometimes
results in the Gtk-ERROR message listed above...
After entering the desired name for the new folder I sometimes
accidentially click on the "Create Folder" button a second time
instead of the "Save" button (which is typically hidden off the
bottom of the screen after expanding the Save as dialog).
A new sub folder is (tenatively) created with the default
name of "Type name of new folder". I believe it is the next
click I make that results in the Gtk-ERROR. Unfortuntly I don't
know exactly what that click is. :-(
As time permits, I will keep testing to see if I can determine
exactly what key click sequence results in the Gtk-ERROR.
