I modified gaim to use the old method of authentication and took a look
at the resulting packets.  Turns out 0x004c is still present...which
doesn't make sense given the gaim code but whatever.  I also tried
kopete (an alternate aim client) and it doesn't even use 0x004c.  So in
conclusion, I'm baffled by 0x004c right now...just forget I ever
mentioned it.  :)
