Hi Guy,

thank you for the valuable feedback.  I'll be addressing everything
you've mentioned.

I'll look to doing this as an interim solution whilst I re-implement the
memory-mapping dependent stuff myself (as you can see I pretty much just
dropped in the Firestorm elog "library" C files).

Again, thank you for the input.  I'll post my changes here.
