i recommend you abandon Windows in favor of Linux. i tried to
do wireless sniffing/cracking for months using Vista ... i finally
managed to sniff but cracking was a monster

i switched to Linux 2 mos ago. i now can crack WEP or WPA/WPA2
PSK's with ease ...

So do we, but Windows, at least, and the drivers available for Windows

By "the instructions" do you mean the instructions at

If so, on what operating system did you do this?
