aircrack-ng toolset is actually open source. Look here:
http://www.aircrack-ng.org/

But if you want to use it under Windows you need a proper hardware.
Cacetech AirPCap
adapters are the only currently supported and cost $200-600 per unit
depending on
features.

Under Linux you can use almost any WiFi adapter which is supported by
Linux for the
frame capture. Maybe you will need an appropriate patch which can be
found on the
Internet.
