Enabling or disabling MAC, network, or transport name resolution behaves
differently depending on whether the settings are changed via View > Name
Resolution or via Edit Preferences > Name Resolution.

If a name resolution setting is changed under View > Name Resolution, the
display will not update until the trace file is reloaded. Whatever change was
made under View > Name Resolution will appear under Edit Preferences > Name
Resolution.

If a name resolution setting is changed under Edit Preferences > Name
Resolution, the view will update as soon as Apply is clicked; there is no need
to reload the trace file. However, the check marks under View > Name Resolution
will not update to match the change that was made under Edit Preferences > Name
Resolution.

TO RECREATE:

Launch Wireshark. Verify that the check marks/settings under View > Name
Resolution match the settings under Edit Preferences > Name Resolution.

An easy way to observe this behavior without generating a lot of DNS traffic is
to apply a display filter to show only ARP traffic and then toggle the MAC name
resolution setting.

Load a trace file. Go to View > Name Resolution and change one of the settings.
The display will not change. Now click Reload. The display will update to match
the new setting. Go to Edit Preferences > Name Resolution and note that the
check marks have changed to match the setting change that was made under View >
Name Resolution.

Now change a setting from Edit Preferences > Name Resolution. Click Apply. The
display will change immediately. Go to View > Name Resolution and note that the
check marks have not updated to match the change that was made under Edit
Preferences > Name Resolution.
