I haven't really thought this trough ...
I think that we currently look for a file "hosts" in a predefined location
this should probably be made a new preference where you can select the file
name. So GUI wise unrelated to the changes made. 

A dropdown list with the available files would make it easy to use.

How about a tick box "use selectable hosts files" and then a dir with
hosts files which can be scanned and made into a drop down list. Unchecked
we retain the current behavior.
