Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2012 12:30:19 -0700 (PDT)
https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7432

Summary: Crashes Immediately, WinXP (32-bit) SP3, 1.8.0 *and*
                    1.6.8
           Product: Wireshark
           Version: 1.8.0
          Platform: x86
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Low
         Component: Wireshark
        AssignedTo: bugzilla-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
        ReportedBy: placerenza@xxxxxxxxx

Build Information:
Not possible, application error occurs with any of the methods to attempt to
get build information (before the form appears thus can't get Help->About, and
from command prompt, wireshark -v and tshark -v has identical application
error).
Best info I can provide: File version for 1.8.0 is 1.8.0.43431.
Also occurred for 1.6.8.

Everything appears to install fine for Wireshark 1.8.0, 32-bit installer. I'm
using the installer from the website, thus I'm not compiling the source myself.
The computer this was installed on does not have access to internet, and is
solely used for communication with specific clients/servers via the use of a
static IP.

Any time I attempt to run Wireshark on this machine with Windows XP SP3 32-bit,
nothing happens for at least 10 seconds, followed by the following message box:
Caption: "wireshark.exe Application Error"
Message: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK
to terminate the application."

I attempted rebooting and retrying with no luck, and nothing else is running
when I attempt to run this application, so there's nothing that should
interfere in any way.
I've also uninstalled and tested with 1.6.8, with identical results.

I've tried installing WinPCap and uninstalling without installing on next
attempt. I've attempted "start when windows starts" for WinPCap and not doing
so. No change in results.

Hope someone can be of help. Thank you in advance.
-Peter Lacerenza

P.S.: I have 2 laptops, one with Win7 64-bit OS, and one with WinXP SP3 32-bit
OS. The latter does not have access to internet but is the one I am using for
this, as I mention, so I used the former to download the installers, and I
specifically chose 32-bit versions. I doubt this is important, but I'll note
it anyway. The 64-bit version runs perfectly fine on my Windows 7 64-bit
system, but I need to run this on the WinXP system.
