Note that this patch effectively returns the code back to its pre-r24654 state.

which was a patch submitted in bug 2302.
So, the patch attached here *may* fix this bug, but will likely not be the best
solution. Maybe someone can come up with a patch that fixes all cases? And if
so, we should probably send it downstream to librsync.
