I prefer to keep it and fail to see why it's a problem - this is the only
complaint so far an it's been there for a while - right?
It could be a solution to have two preferences one for the welcome screen and
one for the window.
I find it useful to be able to see the version at a glance as I'm supporting
people with in-house and standard versions of all kinds. People are often using
the development version and then it can be very useful to see the SVN number.
