I'm not sure this is quite what is desired. In an earlier e-mail exchange
w/Sake, he indicated the following (which Guy agreed with), which is why I
reverted my earlier commit in r37833:

That is how I interpreted the request at Sharkfest :-)
I attached the change I have in mind for non-windows systems, so you see what I
