Thanks.

One consequence I can think of is this: If you click the "Start a new live
capture" button without selecting any interface, it will begin capturing on the
default interface. Suppose you launch Wireshark and select one or more
interfaces on the Start page. At this point, if this change is implemented,
clicking the "Start a new live capture" button would start capturing on the
selected interface(s), not the default. Now suppose that before starting the
capture you change your mind and decide that you simply want to start capturing
on the default interface. You should be able to clear all selections, then
click the "Start a new live capture" button and have it start capturing on the
default interface. You may not know which is the default interface. For
example, my Windows 7 laptop has 3 interfaces that show as simply "Microsoft"
and four interfaces that show as "VMware." There is no way to distinguish among
them on the Start page.

Of course this only applies to the first capture in a Wireshark session. After
that, clicking the "Start a new live capture button" should start capturing
using whichever interface selection was last used.

Also, speaking of not knowing which interface is the default interface, it
would be useful to indicate the default interface on the Start page, perhaps by
putting it in bold face type, or by putting a bullet or check mark next to it,
or by having the text in a slightly different color. A further enhancement
would be to allow the user to right-click an interface on the Start page and
select "Set as default."
