Well, attempting to load a *7 Gb* file probably is uncommon, this must be the
most commonly reported "bug" in Wireshark (if it's not I would be extremely
surprised).  It's just that people usually notice with significantly smaller
files ;-).

And yes, a lot of people (including core Wireshark developers) would like to
see this fixed, but as Guy mentioned, it's not easy and doing so would probably
require dropping some popular features like transparent access to compressed
files--unless someone (a lot smarter than me and probably with a lot more spare
time than any of us) can get random access to compressed files working.
