Bingo !

Digging a little deeper, this bug is appears to be the same as #3285 (which has
been marked as a dup of bug #3290).

I've just done a simple test (using "old_packet_list") wherein I changed the
length field of a proto_tree_add_item to be large enough so that the reference
extended beyond the actual packet.

I then got a "malformed" in the packet details, but nothing on the Info line.
Also: trying to filter on "Malformed" shows no frames.

I'm not sure I understand "proto_tree_add*() don't really generate exceptions
any more" since the "Malformed packet (Exception occurred)"  does show in the
packet details.

Answer: no (The bug occurs both with and without new_packet_list).
