In 1.0 we open the browser by running the program specified in the
prefs.gui_webbrowser preference. In 1.2 and later we use xdg-open if it's
installed and prefs.gui_webbrowser if it's not. In either case we don't set the
user ID beforehand.

However, why are you running as root? This is something we strongly recommend
against in the documentation. From doc/README.packaging:

    WIRESHARK CONTAINS NEARLY TWO MILLION LINES OF SOURCE CODE. DO NOT RUN
    THEM AS ROOT.

If your distribution runs Wireshark as root then it was packaged wrong.
