Fenny, did you try using truss (the Solaris equivalent of strace)?
And what do you mean it's slow to start? Slow before it starts capturing or
slow before it displays the first packet or...?
Do you have DNS resolution turned on? Try running tshark with "-n" (to disable
name resolution) to see if that helps.
