Though I think I tried also converting to libpcap NG with the same result.
Libpcap NG I think is able to handle multiple encapsulations. 

For me having solution of dropping other encapsulations would be fine. Though I
would strongly sugest that editcap would print the error to stderr, instead of
stdout. I've noticed that editcap prints information to stdout even if you
print the result trace to stdout. This breaks the output in fact.
