Fixed in revision 26268.
The capture options in the preferences file were read *after* parsing the
command line options. The setting of promiscuous mode was therefor overwritten.
You can either wait for the next official version or download an automated
build (with number 26268 or higher) from
http://www.wireshark.org/download/automated/ in a couple of hours.
BTW thanks for the insight in your usage, that *does* make sense indeed :-)
