Sorry I raised this bug was not able to follow it up, but I have some further
observations about this:
- My workaround uses deprecated API...
- I don't face this problem on the same system when using 1.0.2 (standard
binary installation not compiled from SVN). 
- I don't face this problem Windows Vista running 1.0.2. 

So, it _might_ have something to do with the new GTK libraries and perhaps
needs to be looked into further.
