Just to clarify:

I was just trying to suggest some QUICK TEMPORARY workarounds for people
desperate to get Wireshark compiled on MS Windows. They were by no means meant
to be more than that.

Using GnuWin32's flex 2.5.4 is the cleanest way to solve it all UNTIL the
Wireshark code is fixed to work around the flex 2.5.3x issues. After all, it is
a single binary that you just need to drop into the PATH. No changes to source
files needed. JUST FOR THE TIME BEING!

I fully agree with you that setting up the build environment under MS Windows
is an extremely painful & lengthy process - just went through that.
Nevertheless, it is already a lot better from what it used to be.
