...so the workaround is to prefix the Toshiba router banner in the file (which
seems to be one of the attributes which are used to identify that the file type
is toshiba) with some garbage text which prevents the file type "detector" from
finding a match with the (unknown to me) attributes used to identify an ERF
file.

I guess that the test for ERF format preceeds the test for Toshiba format, and
once a file format is chosen, the algorithm never attempts to check for another
file format, even if the one chosen cannot be processed without errors.
